Course Assessment & Delivery

During the course, the learner will be required to complete online tests and assessments to achieve certified qualification. These online assessments will cover all modules and will test their understanding of the course.

Certification

The primary aim of the DFWC Academy is to help raise standards in the industry by bringing academic accreditation to staff education, training and development activities globally. This certificate course is the first step in providing a career progression pathway for employees and will lead on to a Diploma and Degree level. The Academy and its courses aim to drive standards in the industry and provide a clear way of measuring those standards.

This online course has been developed by The Institute of International Retail and their team of Duty Free and Travel Retail and industry experts. The Professional Certificate in Duty Free and Travel Retail is jointly awarded by the DFWC Academy and IIR and fully accredited by the Continuous Professional Development Standards office.

All students who successfully complete the course will obtain globally recognised CPD points. 30 points will be awarded. for the certificate and 30 points for those who undertake the mentor’s role and complete this module.

While the course builds on and reinforces any existing in-house training, it takes a significantly broader approach to the duty free and travel retail industry.  It covers various aspects such as the history and evolution of the industry, key players, current challenges and opportunities. It looks at the industry’s professional standards and delves deeper into  the key differences between the travelling consumer and domestic consumer in terms of behaviours, barriers and drivers to purchase. It covers category management, sales promotion techniques and It also explores retail innovations and how they can best be applied in the learner’s own business.

The course is delivered online through our Learning Management System (LMS) which is easy to use and allows you to study at your own pace.  It is available across all platforms, PC, laptop, tablet or phone.

Our Learning Management System (LMS) is designed to be as user-friendly as possible: intuitive controls, clear instructions, and tutorials guide students through new tasks. However, students still need basic computer skills to access and navigate these programs. Our LMS also offers 24/7 support.

The course content itself is delivered in English, however, the LMS settings can be adjusted to allow you to select a language that best suits you for the key site messages (buttons, menus, etc – everything other than course content) will appear in the language of choice.

During the course, the learner will be required to complete online tests and assessments to achieve certified qualification. These online assessments will cover all modules and will test your understanding and retention of knowledge. Each module must be successfully completed before progression to the next module.  An online reflective journal forms part of the course and helps reinforce the learning outcomes.

Yes.  The certificate is jointly awarded by the Duty Free World Council (DFWC) and the Institute of International Retail and is accredited by the globally recognised Career and Professional Development Standards Office (CPDSO)

The course duration is 12 weeks. With an average time commitment of 1-2 hours per week.  

The Certificate in Duty Free & Travel Retail is the first course in a series of future courses which are currently in development by iiR  The certificate course will lead on to a further Diploma and onwards to an undergraduate Degree in Duty Free and Travel Retail.  All courses will carry CPD points.
