Derek Hughes is Principal of 180 Degrees, a solution based Retail Consultancy with over 25 years of hands-on Retail experience. Derek was CEO and founder of Hughes & Hughes, a founding Director of Insomnia Coffee Company and founding Director of the Bord Gais Irish Book Awards. Derek holds a Masters Degree in Business and Economics from Trinity College Dublin and a Degree from the Marketing Institute of Ireland. He has also attended Harvard, London Business School and INSEAD (Paris) on Executive Programmes. He was formally a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and selected as one of Europe’s leading entrepreneurs.
Travel Retail Consultant
Nicola has over 20 years experience across all commercial functions in blue chip organisations such as MARS, Britvic and Pepsico and spent the last eight years as Director of Global Customer Strategy and Marketing for Aer Rianta International. She was responsible for establishing the global customer insights, strategy, marketing and E-Commerce function. This brought ARI’s understanding of the travel retail consumer to a whole new level and led the development of customer led strategies and a marketing that delivered sales growth ahead of the market. She was front and centre in understanding and marketing to siness to business customers notably airports awarding new retail concession contracts and was a core member of the Business Development team that secured contracts in Abu Dhabi, Auckland and Muscat. Working with the global buying function she developed successful category partnerships with global brands to deliver strategies and marketing programmes that launched new products and drove strong category growth.
Isabelle Courtney is an information professional and researcher with a strong background in academic and commercial development. She has a unique skill set and can identify and discern the most reliable, impartial information resources. As an acknowledged manager, she evaluates and filters all types of material and works with businesses in order to source the most reliable and accurate information within their sector. She is the academic advisor to the Institute of International Retail and project manager of the online Certificate in Duty Free and Travel Retail.

John King is a global keynote speaker, technologist and founder of two online startups including a global online marketing university. His diverse skills in marketing, technology systems and e-learning platforms have been leveraged by leading companies in the leisure, hospitality and retail industries. His straight-shooting, no-fuss approach has been fundamental in helping many start-ups leverage the latest technologies to grow and scale their operations to new levels.
Travel Retail Consultant
Ian has over 26 years of international experience in FMCG, High Street and Travel Retail. Having worked in Europe and the Middle East, Ian has most recently been based in Ireland in the Travel Retail Industry, focussing on retail operational excellence.
Tom Aherne has over 15 years’ experience working in the field of instructional design and online learning production. Tom has worked in a range of roles in both the public and private sector, focusing on the integrity of online courses by ensuring that the learning outcomes are carefully planned for and achievable by users. In the past, Tom led the team that successfully launched the first fully accredited online courses in Trinity College Dublin and also developed the first MOOC launched by the College, in 2015. He has also helped plan and develop the first online CPD courses to be introduced by the School of Education in UCD. Tom has both a Masters in IT in Education from TCD and an MSc in Education and Training Management (Leadership) from DCU.
